Side Talks are 45 minute presentations and/or discussions from our exhibitors and sponsors, located in the Boole Room (near entrance).
Laser communications offer significant advantages for satellite communication, including high data rates, low interception/detection risk, and license-free operation. While already in use for inter-satellite links, extending their application to satellite-to-earth links presents challenges, particularly due to weather and atmospheric turbulence.
In this workshop, we will explore the current state of satellite-to-earth optical links and discuss integrating optical communications into satcom networks. The session will highlight how careful design of optical ground infrastructure, combined with existing RF capabilities, can harness the benefits of laser communications while addressing atmospheric challenges.
